Guiding

Genevive has been working as a certified rock climbing guide for the last four years. She received her Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) certification through the American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA) in 2019, as part of the first all-women’s cohort, and became a Rock Guide Apprentice in 2022. Becoming a guide wasn’t exactly her initial career path but after receiving her certification, Genevive realized how much of an impact she could make in the climbing and guiding world, especially for women and people of color.

Since becoming a guide Genevive has been working with women-owned guiding companies to provide spaces where women and nonbinary folks can come together to feel comfortable being themselves in the outdoors. From weekend workshops to week long retreats, Genevive’s goal is to help folks learn and gain competence with their climbing skills so they can feel more confident in outdoor spaces. Her most recent company, She Moves Mountains, helps her to do this not only within the states but internationally as well, in places like Mexico and Greece.

Outside of guiding, Genevive also teaches skill-based clinics for different organizations and brands that are focused on elevating people of color in the outdoors. Her mission is to help uplift Black and Brown folks through teaching while being a positive role model and representation in outdoor spaces.
